Kužni pil

Kužni pil is the central monument on the Požega baroque square that has a statue of the Holy Trinity on its top, and it was erected in remembrance of 798 citizens of Požega who died due to the plague epidemics. It is written on the monument that it was erected by the city and made by “pictor di Veneta” Gabrijel Granicije for 2000 eggs and 300 forints.

There is an inscription on the square stand and the emphasized letters, read as Roman numbers, give the building year if added together. Today the emblem of the city can still be seen on the eastern side of the stand, engraved seventeen years before it was officially approved in 1765.

The monument was in such a state that it was impossible to restore it and put it back in the place where it used to be, so a replica has been in its place since 2005.
