Požega Old Town

The visitors will probably want to know what is on the hill behind the Gymnasium building. Since the Middle Ages, a fort has been on this place which was mentioned in the documents on January 11, 1227. There is almost nothing left of the monumental building, besides some records, etchings, and art paintings. Remains of the wall that ringed the palace were kept. Today there is a park and a promenade in the place of the fort, created after the designs of Vilim Just made in 1877. Since 1905 it carries the name of Strossmayer, even though the citizens of Požega still call it the Old Town, or just Town.
