Sokolovac

Sokolovac is a famous upland that got its name after friar Luka Ibrišimović Sokol, who chased away the Turks from Požega right from its slopes. If we start walking on a charted hill path from Kalvarija further on toward the west and Sokolovac hill, we will first stop at the shrine of Saint Anne which was renovated by Matica hrvatska in 1999. The Homeland cross was erected in 1993 in place of the old wooden cross that had been erected by the Franciscans in the middle of the 19th century, which is proof that Sokolovac hill is rich in historical and sacral edifices. There is a beautiful view of almost the entire Požega Valley from Sokolovac.
