Let’s start from the beginning! In the spirit of Slavonian tradition, make a toast with aromatic Slavonian rakija! For the entrée, bread with lard and a bit of hot ground paprika. Or a fine trout pâté? What about cicvara, a perfect combination of eggs, flour, and sour cream, or trganci (pasta) with cheese? Kulen, čvarci (cracklings), bacon, sausage – they go without saying – but there are also savory tartlets with cracklings, locally called čvarkuše…

Continue with a warm soup or a traditional čobanac which was cooked for a long time over a fire in a cauldron. Dry, cooked meat with polenta as a main dish, maybe a pork roast or podolian under the bell. Urban types will not be able to resist a street food version of čobanac in a sandwich, and if you’re looking for original recipes, choose a Baron Trenk steak.

What is čobanac for meat lovers, that is good fiš paprikash for fish lovers. After a piquant overture, there is smoked carp, fried catfish, perch, or grilled trout with an excellent texture and taste as the main dish.

Something sweet for the end! Tačkrle filled with the finest plum jam and bazlamača in a sweet or salty version. Maybe šnenokle, plum dumplings, strudel…
