Matko Peić Square
In the honor of this Croatian art historian, painter, and writer born in Požega, a bust was placed on his Square, made by Tatjana Kostanjević, the academic sculptor. Right opposite it, there is a monument of Miroslav Kraljević erected in 1988 on the hundredth anniversary of his birth. The monument of this grand painter was made by the sculptor Kruno Bošnjak, showing Kraljević in his most natural state, holding a paintbrush. The bust is located in front of the building of the old silk factory, which is today the building of the Conservation department renovated in 2005. It was built at the end of the 18th century, and the citizens of Požega also know it as Thaller’s house which was used for years for silk processing. The first silk factory in Požega was founded in 1786 and it officially stopped working in 1877.
