Madame Cliquot
The legend says that madame Clicquot, the same lady who conquered the world with her champagne in the 19th century, visited Pleternica on her way to Petersburg. She was so amazed by the local hills and the quality of barrels made from Slavonian oak, that she sent to the citizens of Pleternica rooted grafts on her way back to Champagne.
Grateful Slavonians named one of their wine-growing hills Klikun in her honor since this is how they pronounced the last name Clicquot. Later they used that same name for the cuvée of graševina, Rhine Riesling, white pinot, and domestic ranina.
The connoisseurs claim that Pleternica hills Klikun and Starac are the best continental wine-growing positions. They are part of Požega – Pleternica vineyards with excellent wines that cover over 390 ha. A theme Road of Roses and Wines leads from the center of Pleternica to Starac, and you can take a walk around Klikun on the Paths of Madame Clicquot.
An excellent choice for hikers, cyclists, and excursionists, and if you are a wine lover, you will not miss a wine degustation in Markota vineyard on Starac next to a big wooden barrel. There is a belvedere in front of it, with a view of Pleternica and the surrounding hills. An experience to remember!
