Požega City Theater
The first theater performance in Požega was staged in 1715, and just 3 years later, the first performance in Croatian was played.
Exactly 230 years after the first mention of theater, in April 1945, the Trade Union Theater Group was founded in Požega, laying the foundation for the first professional theater operating in Požega from 1948 to 1957. On March 10, 1995, the Požega City Theater was ceremoniously opened with a performance titled "Look How the Day Begins Nicely" directed by Ivica Plovanić.
The quality of the theater's work is evidenced by productions performed on stages throughout Croatia, from national houses to renowned domestic theaters. It is worth noting the Croatian Theater Award, the domestic theater's Oscar, which Antonija Stanišić deserved in 2002 for her role as Lisica in the children's play "Pinocchio," as well as numerous other awards and recognitions in various theater categories earned by the City Theater and its actors.
Never before has Požega produced as many as five young actors who have graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in recent years and are occasionally seen on theater stages where they have played their first roles.
