Sacral heritage
Impressive medieval architecture left an immense mark on sacral buildings. Massive Romanesque walls, rib Gothic vaults, Baroque columns, and facades with lavish decorations from the Rococo period are all visible traces of a rich heritage.
Real treasures are also hidden in the interior of churches throughout Golden Slavonia - from almost three centuries-old mass vestments, Gothic liturgical dishes, Pauline hymns and episcopal pastorals to church rings, gifts from Empress Maria Theresa, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI ...
The paintings of Mate Celestin Medović and Oton Iveković, the only example of a Renaissance oil painting on canvas, an organ from the famous Heferer workshop, but also a unique wooden chapel and one of the largest Romanesque church portals in Croatia, will attract true lovers of sacral art.
However, this valuable part of the cultural heritage is also a reflection of true piety, the religious and cultural identity of Slavonians, traditions, and customs that have been passed down for generations.
