The chapel of Saint Andrew

The wooden chapel of Saint Andrew in Brezine is unique in Slavonia, and it is located in the local cemetery. It was first mentioned in canonical visitations in 1757, and a few years later, a new wooden chapel was built from oak beams with a wooden ceiling. The interior was not painted nor floored, and the chapel had three windows that were kept until today. At the end of the 18th century, the chapel was upgraded with a sacristy from the same material as its walls, i.e., oak planks. In 1866, the affiliation was walled with stone and bricks, and a porch was added. In 1932, the dirt floor was floored by bricks. This is how the chapel of Saint Andrew got its final look. After the Homeland war, but not before 2012, it was renovated and consecrated. The most visible change of the outside is in putting back the original roofing made of split oak slats – šindil. The inside was whitened with lime milk applied directly to the wooden base, since it had been established that it represented the original treatment of the inside of the wall. Inside the chapel, there is a painting of the Mother of God holding a child dressed in the national costume of this region.
